Gooden’s Kingdom

View of the Week

Perched on Isle Au Haut’s Head Harbor, this 1911 Queen Anne-style home was formerly owned by Gooden Grant, a lobsterman whose prosperous career spanned more than 75 years. A larger than life figure with a taste for bootlegged whiskey, Grant was the impetus for the house’s inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places in 2013. According to the Register, the “commodious, well-built, and stylish” structure “is eligible for listing…as the home of a man significant both for his professional prowess and as a folk legend.” Submitted by: Kate Hotchkiss Taylor; upload your #mainehomelife photos here!
